The Bronx Documentary Center, located in the South Bronx in New York City, is a nonprofit which trains middle and high school students from the community in documentary work. A city-based nonprofit is working to bridge the social gap. Nearly three out of four adults over 50 in the United States want to age in place. But for many, staying at home brings an unintended consequence: isolation. In 2024, one in three older Americans reported feeling lonely either sometimes or often. In New York City, a grassroots response is helping tackle this issue. Lifeforce in Later Years, a nonprofit based in Manhattan, is working to bridge that social gap, matching older adults with volunteers across Morningside Heights and West Harlem in an effort to reduce loneliness and foster connection.
